MOD Vehicle Spares – Case Study

At the very end of 2014 UK MoD awarded a 2 year Framework agreement to several Prime Contractors to supply parts for military vehicles. These Contracts started this year and provided an enduring means of ordering Armoured Fighting Vehicle spares (AFVS). The scope of the Contracts include, but were not limited to, spares in support of the Warrior, CVR(T), Challenger II, CRARRV, Stormer, Titan and Trojan vehicles. The duration of the Contracts was made firm for 2 years with an option to extend for a further year. The number of participants to the Contract agreements is 8, down from the initial 15 bidding prime contractors.

It is estimated the total value of Purchases for the entire duration of the framework agreement range between 10 000 000 and 20 000 000 GBP, excluding VAT:

The Contracts contain a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure performance of the Contractors in areas such as delivery and quality, and include remedies for poor performance.
In accordance with the Government’s transparency agenda, all details for this project were publish on-line, from the initial Tender to the final Contract documents.

The following eight companies were finally selected for Parts Contract for military vehicles 2014/S 241-424097

  • Bozeat Industrial Limited T/A BI Engineering, Wellingborough, value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP
  • Babcock Integrated Technology Limited, Devonport, value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP
  • Carwood Motor Units Limited, Coventry, value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP
  • CMCA (UK) Limited, Worcester, value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP
  • General Dynamics Land Systems — Force Protection Europe, Telford, value of the contract 2 500 000 GBP
  • R&R Bassett (engineering) Limited, Hayle, value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP
  • TVS Supply Chain Solutions Limited, Chorley, final value of the contract: 2 500 000 GBP

Ford Component Manufacturing (FCM) at their UK Manufacturing base at Hebburn, in the North of England already worked as a Subcontractor to half of these Prime Contractors, producing a wide range of Metal Pressed parts, manufactured and approved to FV Drawing Numbers. FV numbers relate to a design specification or drawing number laid down by the Chief Engineer, Fighting Vehicles Design Department for the Ministry of Supply.

Our pressed parts are used in many sub-assemblies of the Fighting Vehicle, these include areas such as Axles, Brakes Systems, Engines, Transmissions, Gearboxes, Diesel Injection and Control Systems. Our metal pressed products have proven over the years to offer our clients the reliability needed in critical areas of the FV Assembly.

By ensure all metal pressed parts are made on time, to tight schedules and to the correct Quality, FCM clients are confident in meeting their KPIs through the life of the contracts.
